Unserious Stuff for a Serious Change
Monday, April 14th, 2008
Might be a strange heading, but there is something very true about it. Because it is neither money, nor the best research programs who have really changed a lot. They have created hope – yes, but where are the great results? Maybe it just takes way longer as we are expecting.
In Rio I never had the impression that there is not enough money. You get support for nearly anything if you have the connections. But everyday life with shooting and rates like civil war continue.
So getting back to my heading: Dante Quinterno, the president of TV ROC is proposing a different story. Mass weddings and mass christmas for a better communication inside the community? Listen to the interview to make your own opinion. But I believe that everyone needs something to compensate the civil war infront of its door (or even worse inside its house).

The Practical Urbanity in Rocinha
Monday, March 3rd, 2008
In the second part of the Interview with the carioca architect Carlos Luis Toledo, who has his side office in the biggest favela called Rocinha, we are talking about the urban design in this favela. The favelados, the slum indwellers, are participating in the process of the new urbanisation there, since they can look back over a long tradition of making urbanity by their own.

The first part of the interview was posted on the 04fev2008. It gives an overview of the theoretical urbanisation of Rocinha.
